Calendar of Events 2009

March

Through March 1, 2009

MAIN GALLERY
Surface/Tension: Gary Grotey and Clifford West

Industrial materials are transformed into compelling 3-D work in Grotey’s glowing 1970s “rounds”—created from resins in light-refracting layers—and West’s chemically altered, woven copper “wallscapes.”

REGIONAL GALLERY
Clay Nation
The collection of clay artist Jed Schlegel includes works by more than two dozen contemporary clay masters. Pieces by Bede Clark, John Tilton, Tom Coleman, Ellen Shankin, Matt Long, Nicholas Joerling, Peg Malloy, Judith Duff, and Jan McKeachie-Johnston are part of this sophisticated collection of ceramic works. With a selection of Schlegel’s own accomplished works.

March 7 – May 3, 2009

MAIN GALLERY
PhotoSpiva 2009

Celebrating its 33rd year, Spiva’s acclaimed national competition results in an
exhibition of excellence, a “snapshot” of contemporary photography featuring notable works by amateurs and professionals. Enter online at www.photospiva.org beginning December 5, 2008. Deadline for entries: January 9, 2009.

March 7 May 8, 2009

REGIONAL GALLERY
Theresa Rankin: Changes
Influenced by John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla and contemporary artists Richard Schmid and Jeremy Lipking, this award-winning artist “sees” in shapes of color and light. Rankin’s paintings combine a mix of realism and paint strokes marked by texture—and an ever-present accent on light.
